PRESS RELEASE CONT..... Talent competitions like Shell Road To Fame and Gumba Fire have come and gone. Pop Stars and Idols are our latest additions, and the SA Music Awards and the Kora All-Africa Music Awards are also still in existence. But we have never had a landmark talent search or awards that are exclusively slanted towards gospel music. This new phenomenon is therefore a talent competition with a difference, in that it allows non recorded artists receive recognition for their effort to grow this genre the same way the established artists do. Triggered by the need to catapult gospel into centre stage, this is something that has never been seen or done before in South Africa. Not only does it signal the genesis of a movement that will see gospel music play a pivotal role on the South African musical landscape and the whole of Africa in due course, but it intends to entrench gospel as the leading genre. If this is anything to go by, the days of having gospel music as an afterthought, playing second fiddle to other genres are dead and buried. Gospel Genesis, which is destined to spearhead this resurgence of gospel music, will certainly pull this off. They have all that it takes. Tseliso Phomane, the brains behind this pioneering project, has the requisite expertise and experience that is backed by an international exposure to a similar project, in the US, which has since culminated in gospel becoming a choice genre. |
